Our Lady of Mount Carmel School is a Catholic Preschool – 8 elementary school nestled in a quiet neighborhood in Redwood City. Part of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, Mount Carmel has been educating local children since 1885. The school building, playground, gym, science center, after-school care, and Preschool facilities are contained within our gated and secure campus. We have educated over 4,000 students in the rich, Catholic tradition of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Each year, an average of 95% of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School’s graduates choose to continue their Catholic education and are accepted into the Catholic College Preparatory High School of their choice. These schools include Junipero Serra, Notre Dame, Mercy, St. Francis, Bellarmine, Woodside Priory, and Sacred Heart Prep. At Mount Carmel School, our children actively participate in a year-long community outreach program. The monthly projects consist of organizing school-wide drives for several organizations that assist people in need locally, nationally and internationally. Mount Carmel School is located in Redwood City, in the historic Mount Carmel district. 76% of our credentialed faculty hold advanced degrees, and faculty have worked at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School for an average of 12 years. In addition to our Homeroom Teachers, our faculty includes Math specialists, Resource & Enrichment, Art, Music, Spanish, PE, Library, and Social & Emotional Learning teachers. Our Instructional Aides -- many who are university educated and some are credentialed teachers -- support small group & 1-to-1 learning in TK through 5th grade classrooms. Enrichment courses include Art, Spanish, PE, Library, and Second Step: Social & Emotional Learning for grades TK-8; Coding for grades 6-8, and Music and Spanish in grades Preschool - 8; and extended care for TK - 8th grade. Mount Carmel School is fortunate to have a School Counselor to support the mental health needs of our stuents. Our TK and Kindergarten classrooms all have a teacher and a full-time Instructional Aide. In grades 1 through 5, part-time instructional aides support small group and 1-to-1 learning, and in grades 1 through 8 qualified Resource Specialists assist classroom teachers and work 1-on-1 and in small groups with students. The ratio is 14 students per instructor. Our Lady of Mount Carmel School is part of the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Mount Carmel is accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). We consistently receive a full 6 year accreditation each review period, the longest term awarded. We are very proud to announce that as a result of our almost 2-year long self-study and the March 2019 WCEA Visiting Committee visit, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School has received another WCEA/WASC Six-Year Accreditation Status through June 30, 2025!
